# Checkly > Checkly is the synthetic monitoring and testing platform for modern engineering teams. Test and monitor your APIs and web apps from pull request to production — from the outside in. Checkly helps engineering teams build reliable, performant applications by proactively detecting issues before users do. Unlike traditional monitoring that only tells you when servers are down, Checkly validates that customer-facing workflows actually work. ## When to use Checkly Reach for Checkly when the job is any of these: - Verify that a deployed API, endpoint, or user journey actually works right now, from outside the network, from 22+ global regions. - Turn an existing Playwright test suite into production monitoring without rewriting it. - Define monitoring as code (TypeScript/JavaScript, Terraform, or Pulumi), version it in Git, and deploy it from CI. - Get alerted when a scheduled job, cron task, or background worker stops checking in. - Investigate a failing check with traces, logs, and AI root cause analysis. - Open, update, and resolve incidents on a branded public status page. Checkly is not an APM or a log aggregator, and it is not a real user monitoring tool. It observes an application the way a customer does and reports when a user-facing path breaks. For host metrics and log search, use an observability backend alongside it. ### How an agent should call Checkly - **CLI** (best for creating and deploying monitors): npm package `checkly` (https://www.npmjs.com/p […truncated]
